Overwatch animated Media
Blizzard Entertainment released several computer-generated cinematic trailers and teasers, as well as animated short films, to promote and develop the story for their 2016 first-person shooter video game, ''Overwatch''. The shorts have been met with positive reception from fans and online publications alike. Plot and setting ''Overwatch'' is set in a fictionalized version of Earth, sixty years into the future; the Overwatch organization was established thirty years prior to this future setting. These pre-game events are also chronicled by Soldier: 76 in his origin story video. The story of ''Overwatch'' begins with the in-universe "Omnic Crisis" event; the event's cause is unknown. Mercy is a fictional player character developed by Blizzard Entertainment for their ''Overwatch'' franchise. She was introduced at launch in their 2016 first-person hero shooter video game of the same name and again appeared in its 2022 sequel, ''Overwatch 2''. Mercy has also featured in its related animated and literary media. Lucie Pohl voices Mercy in English-language ''Overwatch'' media. Within the ''Overwatch'' narrative, "Mercy" is the callsign of Swiss doctor Angela Ziegler, who provided key medical support for the original Overwatch group. is an American singer and voice actress based in Tokyo, Japan. She is a member of the voice acting idol group 22/7 which debuted in 2017 and is the group's "overseas representative."
